Seeking the quiet space

Yesterday I went to a Lenten Women's retreat.  This was a good place for me, offering a structure and a quiet place to become reacquainted wth that inner part of myself that prefers the silence, a part of me that had been rather peripatetic of late, incapable of slowing down.

Since I generally feel most comfortable expressing myself through the written word, I participated in the writing segment, where we were supposed to write our thoughts after reading a version (NRSV) of Psalm 16.  As we took turns reading, these words begged to be written down.  I am not a poet. This is my interpretation risiing from the place I am at this moment.  In that, it is enough:

Help me, hold me,

Wrap me in your love.

Awe in your works can brighten my days

but much distraction darkens my soul

and I must avoid following it's path.

Your spirit guides me

It wraps me in beauty

and brings me peace and joy.

For I know you will protect me

and lead me to the path of light.

Makes me want to read the psalms. Your beautiful intensely personal post leaves me in a very deep and personal place.

Love, beauty, peace, joy, light: whether a member of any faith or not, these words are deeply connected to each of us living fully. Thank you, Mardel.
