When I was in JoAnn Fabrics the other day I saw this piece of pleated silk. It immediately said "cool summer skirt" and found its way into my cart.
To me these skirts always look best if one does not scrimp and allows for plenty of extra fabric, allowing the skirt to hang in pleats without too much stretching over the curves and bumps of the body. It still hugs the curves, but billows in an attractive way.
The whole thing took about an hour. I cut three skirt lengths and sewed them together. Notice I did not try to match the stripes on the fabric; that was much more effort than I wanted to put in this skirt, and, since I had bought the last piece on the bolt, I was not sure there was enough fabric warrant that kind of perfectionistic attentions. I then finished the whole thing off with a shirred elastic waistband.
Today I felt cool and collected in the summer heat. I felt refreshing, almost minty fresh, as if I carried around my own burst of icy cold air.

Every now and then Joann’s comes through with a great piece of matter…or is that the designer takes an ordinary piece of fabric and has a great vision! I think in this case it is the great vision. Love the skirt and it definitely says “summer living is soooo easy!”

Beatiful, Mardel! You do look cool and sophisticated. I love the unmatched stripes. That really gives it a designer touch. I can’t believe you found it at JoAnn’s either.

Lovely skirt. It does look minty fresh. It is amazing that one JoAnn has some fabrics that are just great and then there are the “C” markets like where I live and I hardly find fabric to buy.
Really nice looking skirt.

That IS lovely! Last time I was in a JoAnn’s I noticed they were starting to stock some fun/hip fabric.
