Inspiration Week 2012.12

I started this post on Wednesday.  Guess that says something about how this week has gone.    Looking at clothes again is a good start towards eventually unpacking my fabric and setting up my sewing room, although a great many of the things I clipped are things I would never dream of trying to knock off, just things I think are beautiful and would wear in my imaginary life, unemcumbered as it is by the realities of economics, lifestyle, and my own physical presence.

Some of the things that caught my eye were just simple things.  Dress with a lovely shape which shine when well fitted and made with quality fabrics.

Sometimes it was the fabric itself, combined with a simple elegant shape, that caught my eye.   These aren't specifically ideas to copy, just things I love although they may serve as reminders and inspirations.  The toile de jouy dress has a lace back, which would not be my choice, as I would actually prefer a more conservative version, with the lovely fabric front and back.

I love the way different laces were combined in these two dresses.

Rather than the fabric, it is the construction details that make these dresses stand out.

Did you would think I would save only practical pieces?  Not on your life.  Both of these coats are gorgeous and I would so love to wear both of them, in another world and another life of course.  They are completely unreachable.  But it costs nothing to save a picture, and dream, and be reminded occasionally of what I think is truly beautiful.

It’s been really lovely spending the last while catching up on your blog. So glad you’re getting settled in your beautiful new home. Life has been quite a ride, hasn’t it. Much has happened since we’ve last seen each other. I miss you, and I’m glad you take the time to write so there’s at least a glimpse into how you’re doing.

Hi again, good to have you in action again.
What you wrote, is truly my sin. I d o buy clothes for my imaginary life. I have realized it for a long time. Big mistake, as those clothes end up very quickly in secondhand shop, unworn, and I get only a fraction of what I paid for them.
But I am weak on beautiful and expensive, well made clothes. I wish I had your determination and want to settle for more practical clothes, as those are the ones I mostly wear.
I live a very simple life, not many parties to attend, not many trips to make.
I have ended up with a minimalist wardrobe, so I have to wear the clothes, bags, shoes I have.
I try to make each day ” the best day ” ; ).
But jewelry, the pieces I have get worn – even when working with the horses.

That pink Prada coat is something else. I wonder where I’d wear it?

I’ve noticed that your inspiration choices are pieces that would look very flattering on you.

hi Diane, it is so nice to hear from you.

Mette, I tend to make clothes for my imaginary life and buy clothes for my actual life. This dichotomy is something I still need to resolve.

Rose, I adore that Prada coat but I wouldn’t have any place to wear it either. Doesn’t make me love it less.

Thank you Susan. That means I must have learned something somewhere, as it hasn’t always been that way.
