Theresa asked that I wear my new shoes to knitting group yesterday, and I obliged although I usually have a personal rule about wearing the same pair of shoes two days in a row. Besides, it gave me another chance to play dress up in the closets and I haven't gotten any new sewing to show you despite my best intentions.
Actually the exercise was quite productive because I figured out a way to wear a garment that I have loved in theory but hadn't yet figured out how to incorporate into my actual working wardrobe.
I'm talking about this lovely turquoise sweater of course. The color is obviously fabulous for me so it always seems a shame that I haven't worn it more. It is one of those long DKNY wrap sweaters called a cozy and this one was a "summer" weight as it is a linen knit. The problem was that I never found a way to wrap it that I liked, that didn't look matronly or just downright awful. Now this could have been partly that I was 30, or 20, or 10 pounds heavier, and admittedly I didn't try it out this summer as it was too humid for even linen sweaters. But it is a perfect weight to wear now as well.
This wasn't really the look I planned. It happened because I was standing in front of the mirror holding two corners and saying "now what do I do" and I happened to think this worked very nicely. It does work very nicely.
After wearing it half a day, and looking at the photos, I wondered how the outfit would look with a belt, and since I don't own an appropriate belt at the moment, I thought I would just do a little coloring in Photoshop to see how it looked. I am actually a bit surprised at how much more defined it makes my waist, which I think makes me look thinner. But I am as yet undecided about how I feel about this as I rather like the long flowing look as well. Not that I should ever turn down the illusion of an actual waist, mind you. Certainly looking for a belt will expand my options.
The other pieces that got rescued from oblivion was the pendant and pair of matching earrings. They don't match exactly, and they were not purchased at the same time, but they do work well together.
G gave me the pendant first, and several years later I saw the earrings in the estate case of a local jeweler and subsequently pointed them out to him. I actually like and wear the earrings far more than I wear the pendant, and was thinking of eliminating the pendant from my jewelry box, but wearing it yesterday made me think about it a little more and the decision has been delayed.
I see that the length of the omega that I wear with the pendant competes with the neckline of the tee I was wearing yesterday. I love that particular neckline on tees, but it obviously works best with a longer necklace (or no necklace) and if I want to wear something shorter I need some scoop neck tees, of which I have very few at the moment and none in gray or black. This will obviously have to be corrected.
I am also seriously considering looking for a more distinctive chain, or getting the pendant put on a strand of beads, in which case I might actually wear it more. It certainly bears looking into.

My vote is for with belt. Love the color!

I never know what to do with those cozy sweaters. I must say this looks stunning on you, you look about 9 feet tall! Love the belt option too.

Yeah Miriam, I think I vote for the belt too. Now I just have to find one. Maybe a soft leather wrap belt is best. The problem is that when I look in the mirror all I see is how big it makes my hips look. When I look at the photo I see it is another case of the mirror lies although usually that goes the other way and I see what I want to see in the mirror.

Thanks Gigi!
I thought maybe the door just shrank! 🙂

I have always wanted the DK cozy! I have a number of similar drape cardis but none with that degree of flex. I love them. Weirdly, this item may be one of the few things that’s easier for short people to wear, though why I can’t really determine. I do notice that most people I see in them are not tall…
You know you could actually wear that as a tunic with tights or leggings! What a fab piece. Oh and I love the jewelry too.

Love the cozy, one of my favorite colors too, the jewels are great and I would definitely vote for the belt!!! Your new shoes inspired my first online shoe purchase today—asymmetrical grey booties. I can see where this could become a very dangerous lunchtime event!!! Hoping they fit as I have a high instep.

I love that with the belt — oh how I wish for all that mid-body real estate! I was just in a shop trying on a high-waisted skirt that I loved, but the skirt’s waist all buckled into the 1/4-inch or so that is my short waist.
And I agree with K-Line that you could wear this with tights — and really show off those shoes!

You’re on to something re that pendant, which is striking. A longer, more substantial and funkier chain would change and update the look. IMO your pendant ‘needs’ a chain with some character and weight as the piece is so strong. Pendants worn high on the chest look very ’80s, now they are worn longer, some almost to the waist.
You wear turquoise magnificently. Will you quit going on about your hips! You look wonderful. (I would skip the belt not b/c of hips, just b/c I like the flow of the linen knit.)

I´d wear this one without the belt. That color looks great on You!

I love the look with the belt, Mardel. You look like you weigh 100 lbs in that outfit. Have fun wearing it!

Love the sweater and the matching accessories (of course!), you look great!
(btw, I also don’t like to wear the same shoes two days in a row… I like to let them “breathe”. I find the shoes last more and tend to keep their shape for much longer)
