Tulips for Spring

IMG_0498

The tulips are a bonus this year.  These were all planted two or three years ago and I am amazed at the large, lush, vigorous, and sweetly scented flowers of the white tulips.    I will have to plan to include this variety in the landscape plans, not merely in the cutting garden.  There are few tulips that can manage three seasons of large blooms.

There were enough tulips for a large vase for the neighbor in celebration of a 50'th birthday, and a smaller vase for me.

Oh, they’re gorgeous! I always have tulips in the house throughout the spring – but I buy mine from the florist. Do you actually have a garden that produces flowers just to cut? Or am I misunderstanding?

Lovely! And fragrance as well? I never think of tulips as having fragrance — I’ll have to pay more attention.
I’m like K-line, buying mine from the florist (or rather, Pater buys them for me, lucky me!) except for the species tulip which naturalize. How often do you replenish bulbs — each fall? or? They always seem too much work for me, at a time of year that I have no free time. Come spring, though, I always find them so stunning — have you seen Jane Brocket’s wonderful blog with its inspiring tulip bouquets?

Beautiful. I miss seeing tulips popping up all over to tell me it is spring. No tulips in gardens here in L.A.

Gorgeous! I was surprised by the nice tulips I had this year, since I’ve done nothing to them for a couple of years at least.
