The Promise of Spring

IMG_4554
The first small shoots of green peeked up above the ground yesterday.  They gladdened my heart, sparking a frivolous bit of giddy happiness.  Most of the ground is still covered with snow.  The temperatures will once again drop and stay below the freezing mark and we will probably have more snow. But spring is coming.

The light is shifting and the air, if still winter-cold, smells different. We are weeks away from any shoots, so your photo is heartening.

Duchesse, I have noticed the light and the warmth and they are encouraging.  But they dont quite overcome the dreariness of yet another snowfall.  Green however, is full of hope.

Ah, there you go — doesn’t that make a big difference! Up here on the West Coast, we’re battening down for a gale/hurricane-force windstorm. In like a Lion, Mr. March!!
as for your book post, I’ve never got beyond one Paterson book, but agree it would be okay on a treadmill or exercise bike. Chabon has been on my list for too long — better do something about that.
And apropos your title, have you read Peter Robinson? His latest mystery, a good read, is Bad Boys. . .

Mater, March has come roaring in here as well, but not quite gale-force, thank goodness.  As the snow melts I see various downed branches, remnants from previous storms that were subsequently covered with snow.  The daytime high is expected to drop about 20 degrees between noon and dusk, welcoming in some more cold weather.
As for Paterson, Ive discarded more than Ive ever read.  I dont know why I pick them up, but I suspect that I get desperate for more bicycle reading.  I read too fast, one of these books is only good for a couple of hours at best, so I constantly need more.  But for the most part, good fiction slows me down, as it should.

Good fiction slows me down too and I like that.
Those are lovely green shoots. Here we have new daffodils, and lemons!

Susan, I love the way a good book slows me down and takes me out of the world of the moment and somewhere else.  It is good for the brain and the soul, I think.
