Thankfulness Thursday

Today I am thankful for:

1.  My charming and loveable grandson Owen, who is going to turn 8 this weekend.  I am thankful that I can be a part of his life, and for the joy he brings to my life.

2. Sunrise.  No matter how long, or black, or cold the darkness, the sun will rise again in the morning.  And, if I take the time to look, it will be glorious.

3. Memory.   Memory can be a tricky thing.  It can bring us great joy but it can also bring sadness.  We can't escape memory and shouldn't want to. At the same time we shouldn't hold so tightly to memory that it enchains us, that it becomes a force of evil.  Our memories are a part of us, a part of the person each of us becomes.  Our memories make us human.  Let us share them, hold them lightly, but closely, and let us use them rather than letting them use us.

And the loss of one’s memory, as I see now with my mother, is so, so, profound.
