My bags are packed…

One week from today I'll be heading off for a long weekend with a group of fiberly-minded friends.

I'm not actually packed, physically that is.  Nothing is in the suitcase.  But everything is ready.  That is part of my planning mindset.  As soon as the tickets were purchased the mental packing began, and as soon as the planning began, so did a schedule.  I can no more put everything off to the last minute than I could skip brushing my teeth.

A few years ago the suitcase might have actually been packed weeks in advance, but I don't need to be ruled by organizational fetishes.  Apparently the mental disorganization of the last two years has been necessary.  Before, I would have fretted over every detail, I would have packed and repacked,  worried about every possibility.  That much worry leaves you no happy place:  you either organize yourself to the point of missing life, or you put off making decisions to the point that disorganization drives you into a panic. I don't want to be either of those persons.

I just want to have fun.

So funny, I read the “fiberly-minded” as indicating time with folks who prefer food they can really chew, healthy stuff, granola, etc. It puzzled me, seemed unlike you, until the little light bulb finally went off. Duh! So knitting peeps or sewing peeps or a mix — and is it an organized, paid-for, registration-and-all retreat or something less formal but no less fun.
I’m probably not as organized as you (probably?!) but I’m closer to that end of the spectrum than someone prepared just to wing it at the last minute. My husband’s closer to that (he used to have to travel a fair bit, and he doesn’t need much), and it’s occasionally tough for me to ignore. . . Do have fun!

Mostly sewing peeps, but since I’m not sewing now, only knitting and doing needlework so I opted for the broader term. Your message makes me smile, I’m about as far from the crunchy type as I can imagine. We are an informal gathering of friends. As for winging it, I love the idea, and I’m closer than I used to be, but I’m not sure I’ll ever be completely free wheeling.

Oh ma, I thought the same thing: women ingesting psycillium? But of course you cleared it up.
Have fun Mardel, sounds like a delightful getaway.

I didn’t make that association before, but now I cannot help but make it. I wonder where I can go with this?
