More Patterns

One would think, given my recent focus on stash-knitting, that this same urge to use what I have would apply also to the acquisition of more patterns.  But it does not seem to work that way.  Although I may usually just look at the pattern advertisements and dream, this year I have been on a spending spree.  Perhaps it is because both of my current projects have minor delays at the moment, perhaps it is because I am sorting through and cataloging my old knitting patterns, although if anything that should dissuade me from purchasing more.

Bergeread As I perused the pages of the Vogue Knitting, I cam across an ad from Bergere de France, showing this lovely sweater, a sweater I definitely want to knit.

Now since I last ordered anything from Bergere de France, several years ago, they seem to have created an English website for North America with what appears to be a complete listing of  US vendors.  There is not one near me, but that is not particularly surprising.

What I could not find on the North American website was a link to the pattern CDs which I used to buy directly from Bergere de France.  I am not really interested in the big pattern book with the yarn samples.  I am not particularly interested in more pattern brochures that I have to scan into my computer to store digitally as PDF files, my preferred storage method.  I wanted the CD.

Luckily the CDs are still available on the French website.   So I bought one.  In fact I bought three because I discovered that I had neglected to order the CDs from the last two years and I could not stand having a hole in my collection.

IMG_3786 They arrived Saturday.  And I am very happy.  There are several things I like, the CDs are easily stored and the patterns can be printed at will.  Although it is possible that someday I will download the patterns I really like to PDF files and keep them with the rest of my collection at the moment I am happy just to have the disks.

I agree, that is one gorgeous sweater. In fact, I’ve been staring at that ad in VK everytime I pick up the magazine. But, I tell myself, it’s a heavy sweater, a pullover, I’d never wear it. Besides, I hate to knit 1×1 ribbing. Still, that’s the part I like the most, the way the ribbing drapes down the shoulders.

Love it! We talked about that one, I remember. I had no idea they did CD’s. I’ve roughed it by translating from the French, on their website.
Oh, we’re close. Just passed Hudson on the Hudson on the port side.

I’m being really careful about acquisition right now, especially since the last several sweaters I’ve made, even though I like them very much, rarely get worn. I’m going to concentrate on socks and on knits for my granddaughter for a while, and then see how I feel.
But I can see why you’d love this sweater!

Susan, it is one gorgeous sweater and I would wear it if I
would knit it.  But my problem
lately seems to be that I have so many things going on that finishing anything
is a challenge.  I used to hate
    knitting 1 x 1 ribbing.  I forced
myself to knit a ribbed sweater to get over it.  I’m mean to myself that way sometimes.

Marji, I remember talking about that one.  Even with the disk you still have to
    translate from the French.

Mater, I would love to have a granddaughter to knit
    for.  My grandson doesn’t wear
sweaters.  He takes after his dad
and granddad already in that regard.
