This small intermingling of pink astilbes and hydrangea with the small blue browallia blossoms strikes me as perfection every time I walk in and out of the house. In fact, I have been known to walk outside to just sit and look at this small shady bed at the base of my front walk whenever I need a calming moment.
Nearby, the lilies are just beginning to bloom:
I meant to move these lilies last fall, as they don't get quite enough sun and reach over far to the side, stretching themselves toward the light, which of course means they are all the more easily trampled into the ground come a summer thunderstorm.
They share the bed with dahlias, which seem to be happy enough with the light and this relatively dry site.

Those Dahlias are fabulous.
Thank you for the reminder to go outside and look at the flowers. Sometimes I need reminding.
Thank you Susan, Ive been known to need reminding too sometimes. But Im trying to stop and take time.
So pretty — do you have to “lift” your dahlias every fall and store them through the winter? I’ve never been motivated enough to take them on except in those fabulous weeks when they’re strutting their stuff in gorgeous colours and stunning petal patterns. They’re not out here yet. . .
Dahlias! Such lush beauty, wish I could grow them. You live with such beautiful flowers!
Oh yes, I do have to lift the dahlias. In fact I was somewhat worried as they had been sitting in my garage for two years since I did not plant them last year. But they seem to be fine; I only lost a couple. I do get tired of them, but they seem to do better in that space than almost anything else except irises, which are also nice.
