The new Marfy catalog arrived.
I was so eager to look through it I postponed my plans to go to work in my sewing room and instead curled up on the sofa with DH and a cappuccino for a lovely slow look.
I was disappointed. The format has been changed and there is now only one catalog for the year: this book includes both the spring summer styles and the styles for fall/winter 2008/2009.
Normally I like the fall styles far more than the spring, but not so this time. This could be because there seem to be more spring styles, it could be because so many of the fall styles are very classic basics which I already have, or which I can easily adapt from something already in my collection. There were few patterns I liked, even though I kept flipping through the book in some kind of desperate act of wishful thinking, as if by turning the pages I could resurrect my dreams and desires.
Here is what I definitely like:
There is another jacket that is interesting, Marfy 1639. I am mostly attracted to the angled darts at the waist and I don’t like the neckline, but that could be easily changed.

Wow! That is the second opinion that I’ve read that’s been disappointed with the new Marfy catalogue…now that’s some food for thought!

I love Sew Distracted and read it every day. I find your posts so thoughtful and inspiring. I have been hoping all week that you would post your Marfy choices since I guessed the catalogue would get to the US before it arrived here in the UK.
I am still eagerly awaiting my copy and am disappointed to hear it isn’t as good and the two seasons have been put in one catalogue. I tend to like the fall/winter better as it fits my lifestyle. Love the yellow top and the first jacket you showed.

Oh, I’m disappointed too. I’m still waiting for my catalog (on the slow boat) but of course hope springs eternal and maybe I’ll find some things I like. It’s hard to expect them to hit a home run every season, or year. Wonder why they’re scaling back? Fewer sewers I suppose. Lots of times I don’t find much in the new patterns from Vogue/McCalls or whoever either, so I shouldn’t complain, but Marfy! They ought to do better.

Wow, Marfy 1637 is TDF. Can’t wait to get my catalog, but I already know that I’m ordering this pattern. 1664 is another must have, it is interesting to see it in the yellow versus the magazine cover illustration. Thanks for posting these.
