I haven't managed to clean out and replant the long flower bed at the end of my driveway yet this season and now I have a reward for my procrastination. A single iris has thrown up a third bloom (these irises typically bloom in May/June and again in September). It is a bright spot of joy amidst all the brown dying foliage.
There are three more buds on this stalk and as I plan to work in this flower bed this weekend, I shall simply have to work around it and save this small section for later, or next spring.

How beautiful!
That’s gorgeous — interesting to see how the purple looks in the very different light of late fall, whose colours are generally more mellow than the sharper ones that show up in spring.
