17 skirts
20 pairs of pants
90 tees and knit tops in various configurations
untold jackets, blouses, scarves etc.
166 clothes hangars, padded, skirt hangars, jacket hangars all lost.
We had a fire in my clothing closet. The multi-plug that ran DH’s bedroom stereo burnt. Melted plastic, burnt carpeting, singed closet dividers. One singed skirt..
Apparently wool does not burn well. Wool carpeting and wool skirts helped damp the fire. We are very lucky.
My hangars were mostly the kind coated in plastic or fabric and all need to be replaced as the plastic is impregnated with the acrid smell of burning plastic and airplane glue. DH had the good wooden hangars. Now I will too.
Actually the numbers are kind of embarrassing. Although not the number of skirts, I think I am short of skirts, especially since some of those are only appropriate a few times a year.
I haven’t begun to count the pieces of fabric that need to be cleaned. I suppose I will be counting them as they come back and have to be put back in the closet. Aack!
I haven’t even begun the search for new carpeting and shades. I suppose that is next on the list.
Sweaters and shoes are OK, they were in a different closet in a different room. I consider myself very lucky for not having put away the laundry at the time of the fire. The laundry room is on the opposite side of the house.

Oh, how awful! I’m glad you, DH, and the house are all OK, but it’s a shame that your things got ruined and you have even more renovations to contend with.

I’m so sorry. Sounds like the precious things went unharmed, but still, loss of the material ones is heartache just as well. Be patient with yourself as you clean up, etc.

I’m so sorry… I’m glad everybody is ok though. I had a flood last year but all the damage was on my furniture. I was glad I had it insured.

Oh, how awful. Thank god no one was hurt and it was limited to your closet. I hope everything gets back to normal soon. Maybe though you just might need to go fabric shopping to replace some of these items….hmmmm. 🙂

Wow! You are lucky that the damage was not more. I am sorry to read about this fire. I am sure it was scary as well.

How lucky were you that you did not lose everything! Yet unlucky that you had the fire at all. Hopefully the clean up won’t take too long.

Oh, I’m so sorry this happened to you, but so glad you didn’t lose it all. I’ve been through this, and had the same cleaning issues. They will treat your smokey-smelling things with ozone. You’ll be amazed, it really does work. Hang in there!

Unbelievable. Don’t say the new blue eyelet skirt got trashed, please. This is awful. And yet, a chance to start over. I’m glad everyone is safe.

I am glad you and your DH are fine even though your wardrobe got damaged considerably. How frightening! Your yarn stash was in tact, wasn’t it? I do hope so as washing yarns would be more trouble than fabrics. I hope your life goes back to normal state soon.

So sorry to read this, Mardel. OTOH, I’m really glad you (and your DH) are still there to tell us about it. You’re strong; you can survive this, too. Best wishes.

So sorry to hear about the fire. I know it’s overwhelming now, but I know a few people who have lost EVERYTHING in a fire, and say it was very liberating once they got over it. Thankfully, no one was hurt – I guess you’ll really be busy sewing now!

Thank goodness your sweaters were in a different closet. Thank you for your comments on my Katherine.
