I've been not particularly present on this blog the last month or so and that has partly because big changes have been afoot but had not yet been settled enough that I was at liberty to reveal the good news.
An opportunity presented itself and we have seized it with all four hands. Yesterday we signed contracts and committed to building our new home in a PUD (planned unit development) in Knoxville, Tennessee. We hope to be there by the end of the year, with an anticipated closing date, at this point, of mid-December. My mind is whirling with all the things that need to be done, and yet at the same time I am strangely calm, calmer than I have been in a while because I know this is the right decision at the right time.
I'll still be blogging, although I may be a bit erratic at times. I hope to do a bit of sewing, and of course a bit of knitting as well, although I will be taking my new sewing room down and returning it to its previous master-bedroom status soon. Everything I started, thinking I had time, is now in overdrive.
Right now I have family visiting (step-son and his wife) and I am stealing a moment to write this, but I hope you have patience with me while I drag you through even more transitions.

Wow, that’s exciting news! Why Knoxville? Do you have family there? I imagine the winters will be a bit milder than where you are now.
That’s certainly a big change – you must be sad at the prospect of leaving your beautiful house and garden … But I guess new beginnings are exciting!
wow, that’s a big move! I went to school in Kville & loved it – it’s a great town. Good luck on your new life and I hope the best for all the adjustments you will have.

Holy moly – big news! I think it’s a great opportunity to be close to family and to have a new adventure. And think of how appealing your current house will be to a wonderful new buyer 🙂 I predict a smooth transition.
Congratulations. Mardel! Living in a college town is always good – lots to do, and lots of energy in the air. I’ll follow your building saga with interest as I have followed Shannon’s (Hungry Zombie Couture). You have lots of work ahead, but I’m sure the results will be worth it.

Making the decision is a huge step and congratulations to you both for doing that. Don’t worry about your attention to the blog, I’ll be here (as everyone else has said, too) and have great empathy for the work involved. The time frame is brisk but manageable and gives you solid milestones to meet. Very exciting!
Exciting changes for you — I’m amazed you’ve even blogged as much as you have, lately. I’ll miss watching your garden change, as I know you will, but your life will be so much easier without a big property and house to maintain yourself. And how nice to be close to your grandson (or am I presuming incorrectly?)

Thanks for the encouragement, Duchesse, as I know youve just done the same thing, in a similar time frame I believe, although you might have been ahead of me in the exisitng house department, as I got behind being a caregiver first for a long time. At times it seems overwhelming, at others like I have it under control.
Just had the basements cleaned out and most stuff hauled away. Only a few things that are going with us, or which I will likely need before we move remain. It feels like a weight is gone.

I am looking forward to it, and even to just a container garden. Im told I can always have a little space in my step-daughters garden if I want it, and she is only a mile or so away.

Ive been through that gorge on my way to Hilton Head and Winston/Salem from Knoxville. But Ive never been to Asheville itself, just to the Biltmore. Once I get settled I hope to come down and look around.
