The floors are finished and they are everything I had hoped they would be. Perhaps everything I feared too, as I worried that they may be too bright, and there are moments, usually brief, when they shock my eye. But overall, I am happier than I anticipated being, and I am thrilled with they way the colors in the floor marry all the disparate elements in the three rooms creating a much more harmonious whole, a much brighter, more harmonious whole.
Now just to get the furniture back, the bookcases rebuilt and all the little details settled.

I love the floor. I ripped up all my floors about a year ago and put down new, just your basic oak flooring but the change made the whole place different for a while. You will adjust, and it is quite beautiful. Just take a deep breath and settle in.
What a stunning room — dramatic yet somehow soothing as well, I think because there are so many “natural” elements — stone, wood. . . Wonderful!
A tiled floor? Is there an underfloor heating? Very nice. I like the idea of having it spread to other rooms too:
Oh, those are beautiful!! Are they stone tiles?
Wow, I’m loving that stone wall! I agree with mater that it’s dramatic but not stark.
I suspect it will look less arrestingly bright when you’ve lived with it a bit. I like bold floors, just put very bright marmoleoum in 2 baths. It’s like a painting under your feet; I find your floor beautiful.
Mardel! What a beautiful house! As a fairly new reader, I hadn’t seen this before. Gorgeous.
I love the floor tile colors.
Are those actually tree trunk stools?
It all looks very warm and inviting.
Nope, not stone. A very high quality vinyl tile by Karndean. It is slip proof, softer to fall on and easy to clean after all kinds of accidents which occur frequently with elderly dementia patients.
Thanks Tiffany. It is a giant fireplace and it is a pretty dramatic area in the room.
Yes, they are tree trunk stools.
I am having a lot of fun redoing the house, even if I am not doing it the way I originally thought I would be doing. Next up we replace the white formica top on the bar and the black vinyl tops on the stools will be replaced with leather. I can do that myself so I anticipate a trip to one of the leather stores down in NYC
