Things happen. Often they are random and there is nothing we can do but roll with the punches.
Sometimes we do something stupid and we simply have to roll with the consequences of our inattention.

The latter applies here.
I went out in the dark with Garbo for an early morning piddle break. I did not take my flashlight and I rolled off a curb into a neighbor’s patch of ivy, seriously spraining my foot and ankle in the process.
Once I discovered that I could indeed stand up, could indeed bear weight, I drove to Texas. The wisdom of this decision is not up for debate. What is done is done. That was over two weeks ago. My foot is still colorful but I am very lucky that I really didn’t break anything major and have mostly soft tissue injuries.

I never thought socks with Birkenstocks would be my look. But I am going with whatever works. For a couple of weeks these were the only shoes I could get my foot into, and the only shoe I could walk in. Now I can manage increasing distances in other shoes, but I still come back to my faithful birkenstocks.
I’m not up to full normal activity yet, and I’m writing this in bed with my foot elevated, which doesn’t seem to be the best position for actually getting anything done. Still I catch up a little more each day. Today I may finally finish unpacking from my trip, a mere 10 days after my return. I’ll catch up with everything else in time. Stubborn I am. I also consider myself extremely lucky not to have broken anything more serious.
Forward.

I can sympathize…I did a spur of the moment visit to my parents in Indiana, and the third night there I slipped going down stairs and landed hard on my back. Fortunately it was the soft tissue on the right side, right at the waist, so no structural damage, but I had to stay an extra two days before the muscle spasms subsided enough for the 8 hour drive back to the Tennessee Valley. That was nearly 4 weeks ago and it is still stiff and sore.
Healing now ain’t like healing 40 years ago…here’s to both of us mending fully and quickly!
Lisa, I am so sorry to hear this. Healing now certainly isn’t what it was, although I am happy I am healing and it wasn’t worse. But I can still be elevating my ankle with ice if I dare to do too much.
