Watermelon season is finally here.
Tomato season has been here a couple of weeks, although just barely. Despite the heat, it has not been a good season for tomatoes. I wonder if that has something to do with the incredible amounts of rain.
In the photo: Watermelon and Tomato salad. A summer favorite, not as elegantly photographed as in The Elements of Taste. And in this instance, not exactly true to the recipe as I was forced to make do. Still it was wonderful.
Sweet, crunchy, with a touch of a burn in the aftertaste…. this is not watermelon the way I had it as a child. And the watermelon reduction which makes this salad proves very versatile. Somehow we always have a little more watermelon than we can eat.
